When being wrong is awesome!

Don’t quit – never quit!

One of the most important aspects of any kind of research is the ability to be as objective as possible. From an arm’s length, a researcher should be willing to entertain possible outcomes outside of their own. In other words, we should assume we can be wrong and work to prove ourselves wrong by gathering evidence. I think it’s the coolest thing about research is that we sometimes come upon surprises through our research. It’s almost like having a mock trial that occurs during the design phase where we develop our questions.

A while back I posted my hypothesis about the family photo and who was whom, with some whys. I met with my cousins Jim, Mary and Michelle and Jim informed me differently than I’d guessed. How cool is it that I was wrong – and had the opportunity to get my hands on better info! That is what we hope for as researchers. Otherwise, we’d always be barking up someone else’s family tree. I’ll post the details later about the picture, but I thought the topic was worthy of highlighting.
