In 1880, the U.S. Census shows that Thomas lived next door to his brother Patrick. The census date was 1 June 1880.
Thomas (age 26) was married to Catherine (age 24) and listed three children: Susan (age 4), Mary (age 1) and Margaret (3 mos. old). Oddly, the birth year reported for both Thomas and Catherine seem to conflict with other documents, which is consistent with the odd record keeping practices of the time. However, these records offered a few more helpful permutations of the surname – Meekam, Meekom, and Meahan.
Patrick (age 28) was married to Susan (age 20). Based upon the DOB for their son, John Patrick, Susan was probably about 5 months pregnant. Susan’s maiden name appears as “McNelas” and “McNelms”, which probably represents transcription weirdness. (Reading the handwriting can be challenging.)
According to Ohio, County Births, 1841-2003 and Ohio, Births and Christenings, 1821-1962, John Patrick was born 20 October 1880.
According to the U.S., Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007, John Patrick passed away on 25 April 1945. Interestingly, John’s DOB is listed as the 7th vs. the 20th of October. While I have not found further documentation on Patrick, Susan or John, I feel happy to have some concrete proof that they existed.
